Electrical transport within polymeric amorphous carbon thin films and the effects of ion implantation

چکیده
Here, we will discuss the electrical transport processes that occur within thin films of polymeric amorphous carbon, which possess a high resistivity of 10 V cm, a Tauc band gap of 2.6 eV, and a low defect density of 10 spins cm. Using current versus voltage measurements, we have shown that the current is space-charge-limited, with a mobility value of typically 10 cm V s. The implantation of boron ions at doses below 6310 cm results in an increase in mobility of more than one order of magnitude. Above this dose, the conductivity increases by five orders of magnitude, and the transport mechanism changes to a Frenkel–Poole type conduction process. At an intermediate dose of 2310 ions cm, the current versus voltage characteristic exhibits strong hysteresis. The observed hysteresis effects could be removed from one polarity by implanting only through the first half of the film. The hysteresis is likely to be due to the trapping of holes at one or both of the interfaces, resulting in the modification of the space-charge within the polymeric amorphous carbon film. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1602953#

Irradiation induced electrical conductivity in polymeric thin films
Scientific objectives of this project are: (1) To produce and characterise uniaxially charge conducting ion tracks in thin polymeric films with high energy ion beam irradiation. (2) To understand the charge transport mechanisms within and as well as across ion tracks, which have been identified and shown to occur via electron transport across the carbon clusters that were formed within these io...

In the present study, effect of interfacial roughness on the ion implanted Tantalum based surfaces has been investigated. The argon ions with energy of 30 keV and in doses of 1×1017 , 3×1017 , 5×1017 , 7×1017 , and 10×1017 (ion/cm2) have been used at ambient temperature. The Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), analysis have been used to study and characterize the surfaces morphology. The effect of ...

Electrical properties and annealing behaviour of undoped and doped amorphous silicon carbon nitride (a-SiC N ) thin films, x y deposited by ion beam sputtering techniques, have been studied. Doping of the a-SiC N thin films with magnesium (Mg), and x y phosphorous (P) was carried out by ion implantation techniques, and subsequent annealing effect on the electrical conductivity (s) and activatio...
متن کاملPhysical Properties of Reactively Sputter-Deposited C-N Thin Films
This work aims to prepare and study amorphous carbon nitride (CNx) films. Films were deposited by reactive magnetron radiofrequency (RF) sputtering from graphite target in argon and nitrogen mixture discharge at room temperature. The ratio of the gas flow rate was varied from 0.1 to 1. Deposited films were found to be amorphous. Highest Nitrogen concentration achieved was 42 atomic percent whic...
متن کاملEffect of Thickness on Structural and Morphological Properties of AlN Films Prepared Using Single Ion Beam Sputtering
Aluminum nitride (AlN) thin films have potential applications in microelectronic and optoelectronic devices. In this study, AlN thin films with different thicknesses were deposited on silicon substrate by single ion beam sputtering method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra revealed that the structure of films with thickness of - nm was amorphous, while the polycrystalline hexagonal AlN with a...
